Several teams have shown interest in acquiring Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford this offseason, with the Las Vegas Raiders emerging as one of the most aggressive suitors. Notably, Raiders minority owner Tom Brady appears to be playing a role in the team’s recruitment efforts.
According to ‘Fox Sports’ insider Jordan Schultz, Brady recently hosted Stafford at his home in Montana, where the two spent time together and even went skiing. Schultz reports that Brady has been actively involved in trying to bring Stafford to Las Vegas. Since the Rams have granted Stafford and his agent permission to explore trade options, Brady’s involvement does not constitute tampering.
The Raiders have reportedly been the most determined team in pursuing Stafford, and Brady is doing his part to help secure the 37-year-old quarterback. However, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has suggested that while Stafford and Brady did meet in Montana, their encounter was unplanned and not necessarily part of a recruitment push. Still, the ‘Las Vegas Journal-Review’ confirmed that Brady has been in contact with Stafford’s camp regarding a potential move to the Raiders.
Last season, Stafford threw for 3,762 yards, completing 65.8% of his passes with 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He is reportedly seeking a contract worth up to $50 million per season. The Raiders, who relied on Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell under center last season with limited success, appear keen on adding an experienced quarterback, especially with this year’s draft class not considered particularly strong at the position.
