Lindsey Vonn is set to undergo another operation as she continues her recovery from a devastating leg injury sustained at the Winter Olympics.
The 41-year-old skiing icon has already returned to light training in the gym, despite having surgery just two months ago. However, she now faces a sixth procedure after shattering her left leg just seconds into the downhill final in Milan-Cortina.
Since the crash, she has spent significant time in and out of hospital, though she remains optimistic that the upcoming surgery will be her last. She admitted the past two months have been difficult but said she is beginning to see progress and feels closer to regaining a sense of normal life.
Determined to fully recover, Vonn said she is already planning ahead, including taking a summer vacation to mentally reset after the ordeal. She expects that within weeks she will be able to move around more freely and resume everyday activities.
Even while on holiday, she intends to continue working on her fitness and strength. True to her adventurous nature, she is also looking forward to activities like scuba diving and possibly learning kite surfing.
The Olympic gold medallist has not ruled out a return to skiing in some capacity, whether competitively or recreationally, and even hinted at exploring other high-speed pursuits.
Vonn’s injury was so severe that she was airlifted from the course after the crash, which occurred shortly after the race began. She had entered the event carrying an ACL injury, a decision that ultimately contributed to the accident.
Despite the seriousness of the setback, her determination to recover and remain active shows she has no intention of stepping away quietly.
