Alpine skiing: How to watch Mikaela Shiffrin in Åre as she closes in on her sixth overall World Cup title.

Mikaela Shiffrin is edging closer to another historic milestone in alpine skiing.

The American star, 30, arrives in Åre for the penultimate stop of the 2025–26 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season after winning slalom gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics last month.

Shiffrin is scheduled to compete in both the giant slalom on Saturday (14 March) and the slalom on Sunday (15 March) as she pushes toward a sixth overall Crystal Globe. Achieving that feat would see her equal the women’s record held by Annemarie Moser-Pröll, while the men’s benchmark of eight overall titles belongs to Marcel Hirscher.

With six races remaining this season, Shiffrin’s lead at the top of the standings is being challenged by Germany’s Emma Aicher, who sits second and trails by 125 points.

Aware of the tightening race, Shiffrin made an unusual appearance in the super-G last week at the World Cup in Val di Fassa only her second start in the discipline in two years. Although she placed 23rd, the finish earned her eight points, which could prove valuable after Aicher failed to complete her run.

The upcoming races in Åre should play to Shiffrin’s strengths. She has dominated the slalom this season with eight World Cup victories and has also been consistently competitive in giant slalom, recording seven top-six finishes.

The World Cup campaign concludes the following week in Lillehammer from 19–25 March, where the women’s downhill, super-G, giant slalom and slalom races will determine the final standings.
