The Slovenian cyclist will remain with the team for at least six more years as he continues to make history with the squad
Tadej Pogacar was set to be the biggest attraction at the 2026 Vuelta a España, but a crash ruled him out for the remainder of the year. It was a major blow for a rider many consider the greatest cyclist of all time. The Spanish Grand Tour remains the one major race missing from his résumé, and he will now have to wait until next year for another opportunity to win it.
However, it is not all bad news for the 27 year old. This weekend, UAE Team Emirates announced that Pogacar has extended his contract with the team. He has been part of the Emirati setup since 2019 and will now remain with the team through at least 2034.
“From the beginning, this team has made me feel at home. We have grown together over the years and shared incredible moments, so I’m very happy to extend my contract through 2034,” Pogacar said in the announcement.
“There are still many things I want to achieve in this sport, and I believe this is the right place to do it. I’m very grateful for the trust the team has placed in me and excited about what we can continue building together.”
Pogacar has already made history in UAE colors, winning five Tour de France titles and one Giro d’Italia, along with two road world championships and another 13 Monuments. Simply put, it is an extraordinary résumé.
However, his crash at the Vuelta has forced him to shut down his season and focus on recovery from injuries to his collarbone and C7 vertebra. He will miss the World Championships in Montreal and the European Championships, as well as Il Lombardia.
The priority now is to make a full recovery before returning to competition in 2027 and pursuing more major victories.
