Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde remain engaged, but the Olympic skiing stars have revealed that they are not currently rushing towards the altar.
The couple, who have been together since 2021, announced their engagement in April 2024. More than two years later, however, there is still no confirmed wedding date, with Shiffrin explaining that their demanding careers have made it difficult to dedicate enough time to planning their big day.
Shiffrin recently addressed the subject during an interview ahead of the 2026 ESPYS in New York. The American alpine skier explained that she and Kilde are not actively planning a wedding at the moment because their competitive schedules keep them apart for much of the year.
“What I’m realizing is while we’re racing and we’re not together for most of the year, we just need to take the time to be together,” Shiffrin said, according to PEOPLE. She added that wedding planning could become more realistic when at least one of them retires from competitive skiing.
The situation does not appear to have created uncertainty about their relationship. Shiffrin has made it clear that she knows Kilde is the person with whom she wants to spend her life. Instead of putting pressure on themselves to arrange a wedding immediately, the couple have been focusing on making the most of the limited time they have together.
In a later discussion, Shiffrin explained that she has only around five weeks during the year when she can spend concentrated time with her fiancé. Those weeks generally fall around May, June and July, while the rest of their schedules are dominated by training, travel and World Cup competition.
Their summer break has nevertheless provided opportunities to spend time together. Shiffrin said they travelled to several places, including the Caribbean, Colorado, Massachusetts, Norway, New York City, Miami and Innsbruck. She described herself as extremely grateful for the period when they could simply be together and support one another.
Kilde’s own career has also been affected by the serious injuries he suffered during a downhill crash in Wengen in January 2024. He underwent multiple surgeries and later attempted to return to World Cup competition. In February 2026, he announced that he would miss the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics because of ongoing back problems connected to the earlier injuries.
The couple’s engagement therefore remains an important part of their future, even though the wedding itself is not yet scheduled.
For now, Shiffrin and Kilde appear comfortable taking their time. Their priority is maintaining their relationship while continuing to navigate the demands of professional skiing.
While fans may be waiting for details about a venue, guest list or wedding date, neither skier has announced those details. What is clear from Shiffrin’s latest comments is that marriage remains part of their plans, but there is currently no rush to turn their engagement into a wedding.
