Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers was unavailable for Monday’s 99-98 overtime defeat to the New York Liberty after suffering a frightening head injury during Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
Bueckers was injured late in the 90-82 win when she collided with Sparks veteran Nneka Ogwumike while drawing a foul. She fell backward, striking the back of her head on the court with just over three minutes remaining before leaving for the locker room for medical evaluation.
The Wings later confirmed that Bueckers underwent extensive postgame testing and was cleared of a concussion. She was not placed in the WNBA’s concussion protocol, but lingering soreness prompted the team to hold her out against New York as a precaution.
Without their standout guard, Dallas relied on Arike Ogunbowale and an adjusted starting lineup but could not extend its franchise-record six-game winning streak, falling by a single point in overtime.
Bueckers has enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, averaging 20.9 points, 6.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. Her performances also earned her a starting spot in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game.
Her status for Wednesday’s road game against Portland, the Wings’ final contest before the All-Star break, remains uncertain, with the team yet to provide a timetable for her return.
