Red Bull Reportedly Eye Kimi Räikkönen’s Son Robin as Long-Term Verstappen Successor
Red Bull are reportedly keeping a close watch on Robin Räikkönen, the 11-year-old son of 2007 Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen, as the team plans for its long-term future amid continued speculation over Max Verstappen’s career.
According to recent reports, Robin has impressed with his performances in international karting, prompting suggestions that Red Bull could look to bring him into its renowned junior driver programme in the coming years. While any move would still be some way off, his rapid progress has already attracted attention from within the motorsport world.
Robin has been competing in top European karting championships and has shown maturity, speed and consistency well beyond his age. Many observers believe he has inherited the calm racing style that made his father one of Formula 1’s most respected drivers.
The reports come at a time when uncertainty continues to surround Max Verstappen’s long-term future. Although the Dutch star remains under contract with Red Bull, exit-clause speculation and links with rival teams have fuelled discussions about who could eventually lead the Milton Keynes-based outfit if he decides to leave.
It is important to note that Robin is not being considered as an immediate Formula 1 replacement. At just 11 years old, he is still focused on karting, the first step on the traditional route to Formula 1. Before reaching the pinnacle of motorsport, he would need to progress through Formula 4, Formula Regional, Formula 3 and Formula 2.
Kimi Räikkönen has consistently insisted that his son should enjoy racing without unnecessary pressure. The former Ferrari and Alfa Romeo driver has said he wants Robin to develop naturally rather than being pushed towards Formula 1 at an early age.
Even so, Robin’s performances have inevitably drawn comparisons with other famous second-generation drivers who successfully reached Formula 1, including Max Verstappen, whose father Jos Verstappen also raced in the sport.
Red Bull’s junior programme has a long history of identifying elite talent at a young age, having helped develop stars such as Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Max Verstappen. If Robin continues his impressive development, joining that academy could become a realistic possibility in the future.
For now, however, Robin Räikkönen’ focus remains firmly on karting. While talk of him becoming Max Verstappen’s successor makes for exciting headlines, his journey has only just begun. If he continues to develop at his current pace, Formula 1 teams—including Red Bull—will undoubtedly keep a close eye on one of motorsport’s brightest young prospects.
