Robin Räikkönen Makes One Shocking Statement to Dad Kimi After Signing for Red Bull
Robin Räikkönen has taken another major step in his young motorsport career after being selected for the Red Bull Junior Team, and his famous father Kimi has been left to watch his son begin a journey that could eventually lead towards Formula 1.
The 11-year-old Finn, known in karting circles as “Ace”, has impressed in national and international karting competitions and will officially begin his Red Bull development programme in 2027. Red Bull described him as one of the most promising young talents of his generation.
But rather than the attention surrounding his famous surname, the focus is now on Robin’s own ability and ambitions.
Robin’s special message to Kimi
After the announcement, Robin made a memorable statement to his father, thanking Kimi for helping him develop his passion for racing while making it clear that he wants to create his own identity in motorsport.
His message carried particular significance because Kimi himself knows exactly how demanding the road to Formula 1 can be. The former Ferrari star won the 2007 F1 world championship, 21 Grands Prix and recorded more than 100 podium finishes during his career.
For Robin, however, joining Red Bull is not simply about following his father’s footsteps. It represents an opportunity to build his own career from the beginning.
Red Bull’s junior programme has previously developed some of Formula 1’s biggest names, including Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Kimi proud but cautious
Kimi has welcomed the opportunity with obvious excitement.
The former world champion said the family was thrilled that Robin had been chosen and praised Red Bull for offering a comprehensive programme designed to develop his son’s talent over the coming years.
Kimi also knows that being the son of a world champion can create enormous expectations. Robin will therefore have to deal with comparisons to his father while developing his own racing style.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has stressed that the organisation wants to develop Robin gradually rather than placing unnecessary pressure on him. He highlighted the youngster’s speed, racecraft, maturity and focus.
A long road ahead
Robin’s Red Bull move does not mean he is joining Formula 1 or signing an F1 race contract. He is entering the team’s young-driver development system, with his work under the programme beginning in 2027.
At just 11 years old, there are many stages still ahead, including further karting, junior single-seater racing and the difficult progression through motorsport’s junior categories.
Nevertheless, the significance of the announcement is clear. Red Bull has identified potential in Robin and is prepared to invest in his development.
For Kimi, it is another chapter in a remarkable racing story. For Robin, it is the beginning of his own.
The biggest question now is whether “Ace” can eventually turn the Räikkönen name into a new generation of Formula 1 success.
