Neil Robertson has responded humorously to criticism surrounding his Shot of the Tournament award from the recent World Snooker Championship.
The Australian reached the quarter-finals after victories over Pang Junxu and Chris Wakelin before losing 13-10 to John Higgins in a thrilling contest. Despite the defeat, Robertson still picked up the award for the tournament’s best shot, produced during his match against Higgins.
The effort saw Robertson, with only one red available, strike a long-range shot from the opposite end of the table, using the cushion to guide the red into the centre pocket. While many admired the attempt, some fans argued that Mark Allen deserved the prize instead for a remarkable snooker against eventual champion Wu Yize.
One fan on X joked that it was the “worst Shot of the Championship choice of all time,” while another pointed out that commentator John Parrott had described Allen’s shot as the tournament’s best even after Robertson’s effort had already happened. Another supporter suggested Robertson should formally reject the award.
Robertson took the comments lightly and replied: “I accept the award with grace,” followed by a smiling emoji. In another playful post, he added: “I would also like to make a special mention to myself for winning shot of the championship!”
The 44-year-old has remained active on social media since the tournament ended and recently joined discussions about introducing a Ryder Cup-style event in snooker, an idea also backed by Higgins.
