Mark Allen said that Wu Yize deserved his place in the World Championship final after a dramatic semi-final at the Crucible, praising the young Chinese star’s composure under pressure.
The 22-year-old’s performance drew comparisons from Allen to legends like Stephen Hendry and Judd Trump, highlighting the level Wu is already operating at so early in his career.
Allen admitted he squandered key opportunities, including a crucial missed black, which allowed Wu to step in and produce a decisive 71 break to clinch the final frame and seal victory.
Reflecting on the match, Allen praised Wu’s maturity, shot selection, and cue-ball control, noting that many players would have faltered in such a high-pressure moment. Although disappointed, he accepted the outcome, saying the better player progressed.
Wu, who has long been regarded as a rising talent, has now fully announced himself on the global stage. He previously claimed his first ranking title at the International Championship by defeating John Higgins, and now advances to face Shaun Murphy in the final.
After the match, Wu admitted he was extremely nervous and even thought he might lose, particularly during a tense frame involving a missed black. He acknowledged some mistakes in safety play but was pleased to capitalize on his chances and expressed sympathy for Allen.
Looking ahead, Wu said he will give everything he has over the extended final to try and win his first World Championship title.
