Mick Schumacher shares injury update after breaking wrist in IndyCar St Pete crash.

Schumacher has been racing with an injury since his opening-lap crash in the IndyCar season opener at St Petersburg

Mick Schumacher has revealed that the crash on the opening lap of the IndyCar St. Petersburg Grand Prix left him with a more serious wrist injury than initially thought.

The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver explained that a fragment of his left wrist broke off in the incident, which was triggered by Sting Ray Robb. Since then, he has continued racing while dealing with ongoing pain, often exiting the car in discomfort.

Because of the demanding IndyCar calendar, Schumacher plans to postpone any required surgery until the end of the season. In the meantime, he has been compensating by relying more heavily on his right hand.

Wrist and hand injuries are not uncommon in IndyCar, and even his driver coach, Ryan Briscoe, previously suffered a similar issue in a past accident.

Adjusting to IndyCar has also proven challenging for Schumacher. Although he impressed with a strong qualifying performance in Phoenix, his race finishes so far including a retirement and several results outside the top 15 highlight the learning curve he is still navigating.

Despite that, Schumacher remains unfazed by external criticism. He said he has largely avoided following media coverage, focusing instead on feedback within the paddock, which he describes as unexpectedly positive. He emphasized that mistakes are part of the process, and believes steady progress and strong team support will help him continue improving.
