Local Olympic Downhill Skier Cashman Makes Waves on the World Cup Circuit

Sonora, CA — Olympic downhill skier Keely Cashman, a native of Sonora and raised in Strawberry, Tuolumne County, has drawn significant attention following an impressive performance at Sunday’s Super-G race in Tarvisio, Italy.

Cashman, who represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, previously posted strong results on the sport’s biggest stage. At those Games, she finished 27th in the women’s Super-G and 17th in the downhill, emerging as the top American finisher in both events. Competing this past weekend at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Tarvisio, she continued that upward trajectory.

Racing alongside teammate Lindsey Vonn, who secured a second-place podium finish, Cashman navigated a challenging course marked by heavy fog, particularly on the upper sections of the run. Despite the poor visibility, she delivered a composed and aggressive performance to finish fifth overall—her best result to date in a World Cup event.

Officials from the Stifel U.S. Ski Team praised Cashman’s approach, noting that she attacked the course with confidence and maintained control under difficult conditions. They highlighted her smooth execution and positive reaction upon seeing her placement, calling it a strong way to close out the weekend.

Reflecting on her result, Cashman said she feels her consistency and progress in Super-G this season have boosted her confidence. She credited Lindsey Vonn for providing valuable course insight, as well as her coaches for developing a solid race plan. According to Cashman, the performance is an encouraging step as she builds toward the upcoming Olympic Games, and she expressed enthusiasm for what lies ahead.

Cashman’s skiing journey began at Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort in Tuolumne County, where she learned to ski in 2001 and later competed as part of the resort’s race team from 2005 to 2006. In recognition of her achievements, Dodge Ridge renamed its Race and Dash Team headquarters the Keely Cashman Teams Center. She has also been formally honored by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors for her accomplishments.

Among her previous World Cup highlights are a 10th-place finish in the Val d’Isère Super-G in 2020 and a 16th-place result in the Val d’Isère downhill. For the 2025–26 season, Cashman is currently listed on the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team’s women’s B Team, with final A, B, and C team selections scheduled for the fall.
