Mexican Rockers The Warning on ‘Keep Me Fed’ & “The possibility that we could literally do everything”.

The Warning has been making music for over a decade, with three albums already under their belt, but their latest single, “S!CK,” has hit with an intensity like never before. Their recent performance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ showcased their raw energy, with lead singer and guitarist Daniela “Dany” Villarreal Vélez belting out the title as her sisters bassist Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal and drummer Paulina “Pau” Villarreal drove home a powerful, groove-heavy riff.

Their fourth album, ‘Keep Me Fed’, released on June 28, marks a new peak for the Monterrey, Mexico-based trio. The record is packed with high-energy tracks, from the searing “Apologize” to the driving, Spanish-language “Qué Más Quieres,” and even catchy, pop-infused moments like “Hell You Call a Dream.”

Over the past few years, The Warning has opened for rock giants such as Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, and Muse, experiences that fueled their drive to make ‘Keep Me Fed’ as impactful as possible. They collaborated with top-tier songwriters like Dan Lancaster and Mike Elizondo to push their music further while still maintaining the strong bond that defines their sound.

Growth and Evolution

Reflecting on their journey, Pau explained how touring with major bands shaped them, allowing them to learn and grow through experience. She described ‘Keep Me Fed’ as the band’s first opportunity to process everything they had been through and channel it into their music. Ale added that their hectic schedule of writing and recording between tours contributed to the album’s chaotic energy.

The Influence of Touring with Legends

Playing alongside some of rock’s biggest names pushed the band to elevate their craft. Pau noted that watching these seasoned musicians night after night inspired them to improve, both as live performers and songwriters. Dany shared that coming home from tour allowed them to unconsciously pour their experiences into the music.

Collaborating with Outside Writers

For the first time, The Warning worked with external songwriters, which was a new and eye-opening experience. Ale found it fascinating to learn from others’ creative processes, while Dany highlighted their collaborations with Dan Lancaster and producer Anton DeLost, who helped refine their sound. Pau emphasized that working with writers from different genres including pop and R&B expanded their perspective on songwriting, especially as non-native English speakers.

Crafting a Bigger, Heavier Sound

‘Keep Me Fed’ showcases a massive, dynamic sound that mirrors the band’s live energy. Dany experimented with fuzz pedals and baritone guitars to create deeper, more powerful tones. Ale switched to playing bass with a pick for a sharper sound, and Dany even learned to play with a slide, pushing herself in new directions. Vocally, she explored a wider range of textures, moving beyond her signature screams to softer, airier tones for added depth.

Pau pointed out the album’s variety, from the funky groove of “Burnout” to the raw anger of “Apologize” and the fresh, unexpected vibe of “Sharks.” The band embraced the idea that they could experiment freely while still maintaining their signature identity.

Ultimately, ‘Keep Me Fed’ represents a bold step forward for The Warning, solidifying their place in the rock world while proving that they are constantly evolving and pushing their own boundaries.
