“Let’s All Pray for Pogi”: A Sad Day for Cycling Fans as Tadej Pogačar Abandons Vuelta After Heavy Crash
It was a heartbreaking day for cycling fans as Tadej Pogačar was forced to abandon the 2026 Vuelta a España following a heavy crash during Stage 8 on Saturday.
The Slovenian superstar had been wearing the race leader’s red jersey and was regarded as the overwhelming favourite to win the Vuelta after an impressive opening week. However, his hopes of completing a historic Grand Tour treble were dramatically ended when he went down in a crash approximately 30 kilometres from the finish.

Mas, however, did not celebrate the circumstances that gave him the leadership. The Spanish rider expressed sadness about Pogačar’s accident and wished the Slovenian a speedy recovery.
The stage itself was won by Bryan Coquard in a sprint, but the result was overshadowed by Pogačar’s crash and withdrawal.
