‘We want to win the league’: Arsenal’s new recruits ink in WSL success.

Arsenal target WSL title after major summer rebuild

Arsenal head into the new Women’s Super League season with renewed ambition following an active transfer window that has reshaped the squad. Despite the departures of experienced stars such as Beth Mead and Katie McCabe, the club believes its blend of established leaders, academy graduates and seven new signings has strengthened its chances of ending a league title drought that stretches back to 2019.

New midfielder Georgia Stanway, who joined from Bayern Munich, said Arsenal’s persistence in pursuing her played a major role in her decision to move to north London. She also underlined her commitment to the club by tattooing the words “whatever the weather” a lyric from Arsenal’s anthem North London Forever before making her first appearance in red and white. Stanway said she is eager to settle quickly, build relationships with teammates and supporters, and make an immediate impact.

Defender Lotte Wubben-Moy, an Arsenal academy graduate, believes the club’s identity remains strong despite the influx of new faces. She praised Stanway’s enthusiasm while stressing that the team’s culture, built by long-serving players and staff, remains central to Arsenal’s success.

Wubben-Moy is also determined to establish herself as a regular starter after often stepping in effectively during injury crises. She said Arsenal’s defensive strength has traditionally been the foundation for winning matches and is determined to secure a permanent place in the starting line-up.

Technical director Jodie Taylor acknowledged that significant changes were always planned, with the club seeking to lower the squad’s average age while preparing for the future. She described the women’s transfer market as highly competitive, noting that elite talent is limited and recruitment requires both long-term planning and flexibility.

Alongside Stanway, Arsenal have strengthened the squad with experienced internationals Selina Cerci, Géraldine Reuteler, Ona Batlle and Misa Rodríguez, while also adding promising youngsters Lisa Baum and Isabella Damm. Completing much of their transfer business before pre-season has given head coach Renée Slegers valuable time to integrate the newcomers after previous campaigns were affected by slow starts.

Wubben-Moy believes the fresh arrivals have injected energy into the squad while embracing the culture established by long-serving figures such as Leah Williamson, Kim Little, Kelly Smith and Slegers. She compared the team’s development to perfecting a recipe, with the latest additions providing the final ingredients needed to elevate the group.

With strong attendances at the Emirates Stadium, a recent Women’s Champions League triumph and a refreshed squad, Arsenal are setting their sights high. Taylor made the club’s objective clear, insisting that winning the Women’s Super League is the primary target for the season ahead.
