The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held in London on October 26, marking the first time the prestigious football awards event takes place in the English capital. The ceremony also coincides with the award’s 70th anniversary.
Created by France Football in 1956 and co-organised with UEFA since 2024, the Ballon d’Or remains one of football’s most respected individual honours. London was chosen as the host city in recognition of England’s Stanley Matthews, who became the inaugural winner seven decades ago.
The move further highlights the global growth and prestige of the Ballon d’Or brand as anticipation builds ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Attention is already turning toward who will follow 2025 winners Aitana Bonmatí and Ousmane Dembélé as this year’s recipients.
Organisers said more information about media accreditation and the nominees will be announced later.
