Stephen Hendry hails Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Williams as ‘absolute legends’ with unique snooker ‘superpowers’

Stephen Hendry believes the remarkable qualities of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Williams make them a once-in-a-generation trio whose achievements may never be repeated in snooker.

Speaking about the legendary “Class of ’92,” Hendry described each player as having a unique “superpower” that separates them from the rest of the field. He praised O’Sullivan’s cue-ball control and break-building ability, calling him the greatest scorer the sport has seen, highlighted by his record number of century breaks.

Hendry also pointed to Higgins’ nerve under pressure, noting how often he has produced stunning clearances from difficult positions throughout his career. As for Williams, he said the Welshman possesses an unmatched temperament, with an extraordinary ability to shrug off mistakes and move on instantly after defeat.

The comments came after another strong season for the veteran trio. Higgins edged O’Sullivan 13-12 in a dramatic World Championship last-16 clash before narrowly losing to Shaun Murphy in the semi-finals. Earlier this year, Williams became the oldest modern-era finalist at the Crucible before eventually losing to Zhao Xintong.

Hendry added that O’Sullivan still has the quality to capture a record eighth world title if he remains motivated enough. However, he admitted the rise of Chinese players could mean the sport never again produces home-grown talents quite like O’Sullivan, Higgins and Williams.

According to Hendry, fans should simply appreciate the trio while they are still competing because they are “absolute legends” and exceptional competitors whose influence on the game is unlikely to be matched.
