Ronnie O’Sullivan ‘back to his best’ ahead of record eighth World Snooker Championship title tilt, says Jimmy White.

Snooker expert Jimmy 'Whirlwind' White believes Ronnie O'Sullivan is "back to his best" and has come back to the World Championship stronger after last year's semi-final exit.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been tipped to be “back to his best” ahead of his pursuit of a record eighth world title, according to Sports pundit Jimmy White. White believes O’Sullivan has returned stronger following last year’s semi-final defeat at the World Snooker Championship.

The seven-time champion, currently level with Stephen Hendry for the most world titles, has again played a limited schedule this season. However, whenever he has competed, he has shown glimpses of his vintage form.

Now 50, O’Sullivan is making his 34th straight appearance at the tournament. He recently impressed with a run to the World Open final, where he produced a historic 153 break against Ryan Day. Despite defeating players like Shaun Murphy and Wu Yize, he lost 10-7 in the final to Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.

White praised O’Sullivan’s current level, highlighting his sharp touch and composure. He noted that the Englishman appeared determined to bounce back stronger after his semi-final loss to Zhao Xintong last year.

At the Crucible 12 months ago, O’Sullivan beat Ali Carter, Pang Junxu, and Si Jiahui before being knocked out by Zhao, who went on to defeat Mark Williams in the final to claim the title.

O’Sullivan begins this year’s campaign against He Guoqiang, with their first-round clash scheduled across Tuesday and Wednesday. In the lead-up, he also impressed at an event in Ireland, winning the John Virgo Trophy after beating Hendry and John Higgins.

However, his absence from the official media day drew criticism from Murphy, who described it as disappointing and suggested both O’Sullivan and Judd Trump could do more to promote the sport.
