Imagine Dragons to Launch Toronto’s RBC Amphitheatre with Opening Night Performance

Imagine Dragons are set to make history in Toronto as they headline the opening night of the newly rebranded RBC Amphitheatre, marking a major moment for both the band and the city’s live music scene.

The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning group will take to the stage on May 21, 2026, becoming the first-ever headliner at the venue under its new name. Formerly known as Budweiser Stage, the amphitheatre has long been one of Canada’s most iconic outdoor music destinations, and this re-launch signals a bold new chapter in its evolution.

This opening night concert is more than just another tour stop—it represents a symbolic relaunch of a venue that has hosted global superstars for decades. With a capacity of around 16,000 and a scenic waterfront setting at Ontario Place, the amphitheatre has been a staple of Toronto’s cultural identity since the mid-1990s.

Choosing Imagine Dragons as the inaugural act reflects the scale of ambition behind the relaunch. The Las Vegas band, fronted by Dan Reynolds, rose to international fame in the 2010s with massive hits like “Radioactive,” “Demons,” and “Thunder.” Their ability to deliver high-energy, stadium-level performances makes them an ideal choice to usher in a new era for the venue.

According to event organizers, this will be the band’s only amphitheatre performance in North America in 2026, adding an extra layer of exclusivity to the show. Industry figures have described the booking as a “milestone” moment, emphasizing the importance of launching the venue’s season with a globally recognized act capable of drawing massive crowds.

The opening night also sets the tone for what is expected to be one of the biggest concert seasons in the venue’s history. More than 80 shows are already scheduled for 2026, featuring a diverse lineup of artists across genres—from pop and rock to electronic and R&B. This ambitious programming reflects Toronto’s growing reputation as a key destination on the global touring circuit.

Beyond the music, organizers are planning a full-scale experience for fans attending the opening night. Special activations, commemorative gifts, and exclusive perks are expected to enhance the event, turning it into a celebration of live entertainment rather than just a concert. These additions align with broader efforts to modernize the venue and make it more engaging for audiences.

Looking ahead, the RBC Amphitheatre is undergoing a long-term transformation. Plans are in place to convert it into a year-round facility by the end of the decade, with renovations scheduled to begin in 2027 and a full reopening expected by 2029. Once completed, the upgraded venue will significantly expand its capacity and capabilities, allowing it to host events throughout all seasons.

For now, however, all eyes are on May 21. With Imagine Dragons leading the charge, Toronto’s newest chapter in live music promises to begin with a powerful and unforgettable opening night—one that could set the standard for concerts at the revitalized amphitheatre for

years to come.
