Lindsey Vonn on extending downhill season lead with fifth consecutive podium of Alpine Ski World Cup 2025-2026.

Lindsey Vonn continued to underline the strength of her comeback at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Tarvisio, Italy, delivering another composed performance that highlighted her growing consistency at the elite level.

On Saturday, 17 January, the 41-year-old American secured bronze in the women’s downhill, marking her fifth straight podium finish in the discipline. The result further strengthened her position as the season builds toward the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Speaking after the race, Vonn acknowledged the difficulty of the conditions, noting that soft snow and strong competition made the run especially demanding. She said she deliberately kept her expectations in check, aware that her rivals would be fast.

The podium followed last week’s victory in Zauchensee, which was her second win since returning to World Cup competition after a five-year break. With another third-place finish, Vonn climbed to third in the overall Alpine World Cup standings.

After lacking speed in the upper section during training, Vonn adopted a clear tactical approach for the race: attack the start, maintain momentum through the middle, and accept a calculated level of risk. Despite a minor error on the triple, she felt she executed her plan effectively.

Vonn said her priority this season has been consistency, adding that she was pleased to deliver another podium despite challenging conditions. Reflecting on racing in Tarvisio 15 years after her first appearance there, she highlighted the atmosphere and enthusiasm of the fans as a key motivator.

The day ended on a warm note when Vonn congratulated race winner Nicol Delago, while Delago expressed admiration for Vonn, describing her as a long-time inspiration who helped push her to improve.
