WVU now offering electric vehicle charging stations on campus

PMORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – West Virginia University has taken a step toward sustainability by adding electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at select locations on its campus. In partnership with Greenspot, the university has installed EV chargers in two major parking facilities the upper level of the Mountainlair parking garage and the Mountaineer Station parking garage.

Across both locations, a total of six EV charging spots are now available. Of these, four are designated as “dual use,” allowing the spaces to be used for either EV charging or general parking. The other two spaces are reserved strictly for electric vehicles while they are charging.

WVU officials have set the charging rate at $0.39 per kilowatt-hour. To utilize the chargers, drivers must download the “Greenspot EV Charging” app or the “EV Connect” app, which are available for both iOS and Android users. Those who plan to charge regularly can create an account, while occasional users have the option to proceed in guest mode.

In addition to the EV charging fee, anyone without a valid WVU parking permit for the lot must also pay the standard short-term parking fee. These new installations aim to offer greater convenience for EV owners on campus while supporting the university’s push for more eco-friendly transportation options and infrastructure improvements.
