West Virginia football is set to feel the impact of losing Consensus All-American offensive lineman Wyatt Milum this season, as the standout blocker heads to the NFL. However, while the Mountaineers will miss him dearly, the Jacksonville Jaguars may have found a much-needed boost.
Milum was a mainstay on the Mountaineers’ offensive line, starting 43 games over four years. His steady presence played a vital role in West Virginia’s dominant rushing attack, which ranked in the Top 10 among Power Four programs in each of the past two seasons. His consistent performance earned him a third-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Jaguars who have struggled on offense in recent years due to quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s injury woes.
Now in Jacksonville, Milum is being counted on to help solidify the offensive front. Head coach Liam Coen was notably pleased with Milum’s early performance during offseason minicamp.
“He’s a big dude… the way he plays, the toughness,” Coen said. “That’s what he’s all about. Around the building, people know him as a finisher someone who plays hard and does things the right way.”
Milum, a native of Kenova, West Virginia, and a product of Spring Valley High School, says his gritty style of play comes from his roots.
“It’s just the way I was raised,” Milum said at minicamp. “When I step on the field, there’s only one way to play through the whistle. That’s been instilled in me. As an offensive lineman, it’s your job to set the tone.”
While Milum primarily played offensive tackle in college, he’s making the shift to guard with the Jaguars. It hasn’t been without challenges, but he’s adjusted well thanks to the support from his new coaches.
“It was a lot to take in at first,” he admitted. “But the coaches explained everything in a way that helped make the transition smooth. Since the draft, they’ve helped me settle in. I feel like it’s all gone really well.”
As Jacksonville looks to rebound offensively, they hope Milum’s toughness and work ethic will be key ingredients in their turnaround.
