World record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone pulls out of Ed Murphy Classic due to high fever.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has withdrawn from the Ed Murphey Classic due to a high fever, event organizers announced Saturday.

With the 2025 Toyota USATF Outdoor & Para National Championships approaching (set for July 31–August 3), McLaughlin-Levrone and her team have opted to prioritize her recovery.

“I’m disappointed to miss the Ed Murphey Classic. I was really looking forward to competing in front of the incredible Memphis crowd and building momentum heading into the peak of the season,” she said in a statement. “Training has been going well, so this setback is especially frustrating. I’m grateful to the organizers and fans for their support and will be cheering everyone on from home.”

The Classic will still go ahead on Saturday, running from 3:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., with the main program beginning at 6:15 p.m.
