The MIT women’s track and field and cross country program etched its name into the NCAA record books this season, capturing all three NCAA Division III national titles cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field for the 2024–25 academic year. With this historic achievement, MIT becomes the first women’s program in Division III history to sweep all three championships in the same year.
Throughout the season, the Engineers demonstrated a remarkable combination of depth, resilience, and top-tier talent. At the outdoor championships, senior Marina Miller led the charge with an outstanding performance in the 400-meter dash, finishing third with a personal-best time of 54.32 seconds. Her effort earned six valuable points for MIT and the first of two All-America honors she would receive that day.
In the 5,000-meter run, MIT’s strong distance contingent added crucial support. Junior Rujuta Sane placed 13th with a time of 16:51.45, followed closely by junior Kate Roeder in 14th at 16:54.07 and junior Kate Sanderson in 16th, clocking in at 17:00.55. Their efforts demonstrated the team’s consistency and depth across events.
Heading into the final event of the championship meet, MIT held a narrow seven-point lead over Washington University in St. Louis. The title was still very much up for grabs. However, MIT’s 4×400-meter relay team composed of senior Olivia Dias, juniors Shreya Kalyan and Krystal Montgomery, and anchored by Miller left nothing to chance. In a dramatic finish, Miller surged from third to first place in the final 50 meters, delivering a thrilling victory and securing the national relay title.
That final, electrifying performance not only sealed the team’s win in the outdoor championships but also capped a historic year for MIT Athletics cementing the Engineers’ dominance across all three seasons and setting a new standard in Division III women’s competition.
