The Dallas Wings ended their 2025 WNBA season tied for the league’s worst record at 10–34, giving them the highest odds of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft. With Rookie of the Year and All-Star Paige Bueckers already leading the team, Dallas now has a chance to add another franchise-changing talent beside her.
The Wings enter the offseason with 10 free agents and considerable salary-cap space, but their future success will likely hinge on making the right draft choice whether they secure the top pick again or drop lower in the lottery.
In a recent post-Finals mock draft, Bleacher Report’s Rachel Galligan projected that Dallas would select UCLA star Lauren Betts with the first overall pick. Galligan noted that after finishing last in 2025, the Wings are expected to overhaul their roster and bring in their third head coach in as many seasons following the dismissal of Chris Koclanes.
“With Paige Bueckers as the foundation and potentially back-to-back No. 1 selections, Dallas could finally turn things around,” Galligan wrote. “Betts stands out as a likely top pick thanks to her rare blend of size, strength, rim protection, and agility. She dominated last season at UCLA, averaging 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, and shooting 65 percent from the field.”
The Wings struggled mightily at center in 2025, relying heavily on Li Yueru and Luisa Geiselsoder, who would be better suited as backups. Betts, who led the NCAA in blocks per game (2.9), could provide a defensive anchor and much-needed rebounding presence. Her 6’7” frame would give Dallas a legitimate counter to elite frontcourt stars like A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Natasha Howard, and emerging players Camila Cardoso and Kiki Iriafen.
If the Wings can add Betts to their core and continue building around Bueckers, they might finally have the foundation to rise from the bottom of the standings.
