Wings star rookie Paige Bueckers is ruled out against Liberty due to a back injury.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers will miss Friday night’s rematch against the New York Liberty due to a back injury that required treatment during their first matchup three days earlier.

Bueckers was listed as questionable on Thursday but ultimately ruled out. In Tuesday’s 85-76 loss in New York, she left in the second half for treatment, returned to the bench, and played in the fourth quarter. The No. 1 overall draft pick said afterward she felt back tightness while dribbling and suspects a pulled muscle.

This will be the seventh game she’s missed this season four early on (three from a concussion, one from illness after clearing concussion protocol) and two for rest on back-to-back nights.

The three-time AP All-American from UConn, favored by BetMGM to win WNBA Rookie of the Year, leads all rookies in scoring (15.0 ppg) and assists (5.4 apg). Despite her performance, the Wings entered the Liberty game tied with Chicago for the league’s second-worst record.
