Wings Coach Gets Honest About Paige Bueckers’ WNBA Debut.

Dallas Wings head coach Chris Koclanes assessed Paige Bueckers' first WNBA game.

The Dallas Wings had a rough beginning to their 2025 WNBA campaign on Friday, May 16, falling 99-84 in their home opener against the Minnesota Lynx.

Rookie standout Paige Bueckers tallied 10 points on 3-for-10 shooting, along with 7 rebounds and 2 assists across 30 minutes of play. Reflecting on her professional debut, Bueckers said, “There’s room to improve. You need a starting point, a base to build from. We’re not going to overreact to one game, but we know there’s plenty we need to tighten up. This is just the beginning of the journey we’ll keep building starting with the next practice.”

Wings’ head coach Chris Koclanes, in his first year at the helm, shared his thoughts on Bueckers’ performance during a media session after the May 18 practice.

“I really appreciate how deliberate she is on both ends of the court. On defense, she’s really committed and helps her teammates find the right positions,” Koclanes said, according to a post on X by Joey Mistretta of FanSided. “On offense, she looked comfortable and made the right passes at the right times.”

Koclanes added, “She started to find her rhythm in the second half. The shots she took and the decisions she made she’s clearly going to be just fine.”

Bueckers and the Wings will return to action on May 19 against the Seattle Storm.
