West Virginia Mountaineers Cross Country, Track and Field Finishes Season Ranked In Top 10

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has released its annual Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award rankings, which evaluate the overall achievements of Division I programs in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track and field. West Virginia University earned national recognition for its outstanding 2024–2025 season, landing ninth overall in the standings.

To be considered for the award, programs must qualify for all three NCAA championships, with rankings determined by the points each team earns at those national events.

“This ninth-place finish reflects the remarkable consistency we’ve demonstrated throughout the year,” said Mountaineer head coach Sean Cleary. “I’m extremely proud of our athletes and amazed by what they’ve accomplished over the past 10 months.”

The Mountaineers’ rise into the Top 10 was driven by a standout cross country season, where they secured second place as a team at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. They continued to build on that momentum indoors, finishing 23rd at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. That performance was highlighted by Ceili McCabe’s individual national title in the women’s 3,000-meter run.

In the outdoor season, WVU finished 24th in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, bolstered by Top 6 placements from Sarah Tait and Joy Naukot.

Overall, the Mountaineers’ strong showings across all three disciplines underscore their position as one of the top all-around collegiate programs in the country this year.
