In their initial wave of transfer portal pickups, the West Virginia Mountaineers focused on bolstering the secondary, bringing in several defensive backs many of whom come from smaller programs.
One such addition is Jordan Walker, a transfer from Chattanooga. To get some perspective on Walker, In the Gun spoke with Chattanooga assistant coach and former WVU defensive lineman Julian Miller.
“Being around him last year, Jordan’s the kind of player who’s always working to improve,” Miller said. “He’s got speed and the skill set you want in a DB, especially a safety. But more importantly, he’s just a great kid. No off-the-field concerns he just shows up, does his job, and plays smart football. I think being in WVU’s system, working with Coach Mike Joseph in the weight room, everything will fall into place for him.”
Miller admitted it was tough to see Walker leave but felt confident in the fit. “I told Coach Casteel during the process you’re getting a good one. He’ll do everything right and be a solid contributor. I’ll definitely still be rooting for him from down here in Chattanooga.”
Walker had a strong final season with the Mocs, tallying 60 tackles, seven pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery. Over his college career, he’s recorded 13 pass breakups and four interceptions. He chose WVU over offers from schools like Appalachian State, Buffalo, UAB, UConn, and others. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
