WELCOME To WEST VIRGINIA, JASPER FLOYD. LET’S GET To WORK
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia Mountaineers added a major piece to their backcourt with the official commitment of guard Jasper Floyd. The 6-foot-3 standout announced his decision to transfer to West Virginia University, bringing with him a reputation for tenacious defense, playmaking ability, and a high basketball IQ.
Floyd, who played last season at the junior college level for Indian River State College in Florida, made waves as one of the most sought-after JUCO guards in the country. He averaged 15.2 points, 5.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game while leading Indian River to a deep postseason run. His versatility on both ends of the court and ability to lead from the point made him a hot commodity for Division I programs.
In choosing WVU, Floyd cited the program’s history, fanbase, and the vision laid out by Head Coach Darian DeVries as key factors.
“From the first conversation I had with the coaching staff, I felt the love,” Floyd said. “They believe in what I can bring to the program. WVU felt like home.”
Coach DeVries, who is entering his first season at the helm in Morgantown, continues to reshape the roster with high-motor, two-way players. Floyd fits that mold perfectly. Known for his aggressive on-ball defense and ability to create offense for others, Floyd is expected to compete for major minutes right away.
“Jasper is the kind of player every coach wants,” DeVries said. “He plays with heart, defends, and elevates the players around him. We’re excited to welcome him to Mountaineer Nation.”
Floyd’s arrival adds depth and energy to a WVU squad looking to bounce back after a turbulent 2023-24 campaign. The Mountaineers have seen significant roster turnover in the offseason, but DeVries and his staff are quickly building a team with a fresh identity — one rooted in toughness and grit.
For Floyd, this opportunity represents the next step in a journey that’s already defied expectations. After flying under the radar out of high school, he developed into one of the most complete guards in the junior college circuit. His commitment to the game and growth as a leader have not gone unnoticed.
“I’ve worked for everything,” Floyd said. “This isn’t just about me. It’s about proving that hard work and belief can get you where you want to go. I’m ready to go to war for WVU.”
With spring workouts beginning soon and summer workouts on the horizon, Floyd’s commitment comes at a pivotal time. His addition provides the Mountaineers with a dynamic guard capable of contributing immediately, while also setting the tone for a new era under Coach DeVries.
Mountaineer fans can expect to see Floyd’s name called early and often once the season tips off. And if his past performances are any indication, he’s ready to make a lasting impact in Morgantown.
Welcome to West Virginia, Jasper Floyd. Let’s get to work.
