‘Wanted to confirm I was leaving the club now’: DCE officially rejects Manly extension..

Manly captain Daly Cherry-Evans has officially declined the club’s contract extension, confirming that the 2025 season will be his last with the Sea Eagles.

In a statement, Manly announced:

“Daly Cherry-Evans has decided not to accept a contract extension, confirming the 2025 season will be his last at the club.” The veteran halfback will leave as the Sea Eagles’ most capped player, having spent 15 years with the team on the Northern Beaches.

Manly CEO Tony Mestrov expressed disappointment over Cherry-Evans’ decision but remains confident he will give his all in his final season. “Obviously, we’re disappointed Daly has chosen to move on, but we respect his decision. He’s the ultimate professional and will want to go out on a high note.”

Cherry-Evans has yet to decide if he will retire after leaving Manly, stating that his immediate focus is on Sunday’s clash against the Parramatta Eels.

“I wanted to announce my decision now rather than later in the season so we can fully concentrate on our goal of winning a premiership,” Cherry-Evans said. “I love this club and my teammates, and I’m committed to giving everything I have in the coming months to make this season as successful as possible for our team, club, and fans.”

The Sea Eagles face the Eels in Round 4 of the NRL Telstra Premiership at 4 Pines Park on Sunday, March 30, with kickoff set for 4:05 p.m.
