Usain Bolt has revealed his dream 100m race and the one sprinter he would love to compete against.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist remains the fastest man alive, holding the world record of 9.58 seconds, set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin. While many sprinters have come close, none have surpassed his astonishing achievement.
At the Paris Olympics, Noah Lyles ran a personal best of 9.79 seconds to win gold, defeating Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson and U.S. teammate Fred Kerley. After his victory, Lyles declared himself “the world’s fastest man” but acknowledged that Bolt technically still holds that title.
During an appearance on the ‘Ready Set Go’ podcast with Justin Gatlin and Rodney Green, Bolt shared his ideal race lineup, including past and present sprinting greats. “Me, you (Justin Gatlin), Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake,” Bolt said. He also mentioned Maurice Greene and Ben Johnson and included Lyles specifically because he wanted to race against him.
When asked if Carl Lewis deserved a spot, Bolt quickly dismissed the idea, responding with a firm “Nah.”
Bolt’s Greatest 100m Race of All Time
On the same podcast, Bolt shared his opinion on the most legendary 100m race in history. He pointed to the 2012 Olympic final in London, where he lined up against an elite field that included Gay, Gatlin, and Powell. Reflecting on that moment, he said, “Are you kidding me, bro? Just look at the lineup, the accolades, and the level we were at.”
Gatlin agreed, emphasizing that, unlike basketball where Michael Jordan and LeBron James never competed in the same era track and field saw its greatest sprinters race head-to-head at their peak.
Bolt won that final with a time of 9.63 seconds, with Blake securing silver at 9.75 and Gatlin taking bronze. According to both sprinters, it was a race unlike any other, one that may never be replicated.
