US sprinter Kerley to miss Grand Slam Track meet after arrest for battery..

Fred Kerley, a two-time Olympic medalist in the 100 meters, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly punching hurdler and former girlfriend Alaysha Johnson, according to police. As a result, he has been withdrawn from this weekend’s Grand Slam Track event in Miami.

The incident reportedly occurred at a hotel where Johnson, who is slated to compete in Miami, had a scheduled session with her conditioning coach. She told police that she encountered Kerley there and he struck her once in the face with a closed fist, leading to a nosebleed. The arrest report stated her injuries aligned with her account, and Kerley, 29, has been charged with battery.

Kerley and Johnson were in a relationship for about six months and separated in October, according to the report. He was expected to race in the 100 meters on Saturday and 200 meters on Sunday.

Grand Slam Track issued a statement acknowledging the arrest, confirming Kerley’s withdrawal, and referring further questions to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Kerley had previously participated in the track circuit’s debut meet in Kingston, Jamaica.

Grand Slam Track, founded by Olympic legend Michael Johnson, is positioning itself as a competitor to the established Diamond League, with four meets scheduled in 2025.
