UNC basketball recruiters have reeled in a guard who made a big jump as a Virginia Tech sophomore last season…

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina has landed a major addition to its backcourt, securing a commitment from a rising star who made waves last season at Virginia Tech. After a breakout sophomore campaign, the guard has committed to transfer to UNC, bringing a dynamic presence and valuable ACC experience to Hubert Davis’s roster.

The player, whose name has quickly gained traction in college basketball circles, emerged as one of the most improved guards in the conference last season. After a relatively quiet freshman year, he exploded onto the scene in his sophomore season, showcasing a polished scoring touch, improved decision-making, and strong leadership. Averaging double-digit points, along with solid assist and rebound numbers, he became a cornerstone of Virginia Tech’s offense and a consistent matchup problem for opposing defenses.

Now, he’s bringing that momentum to Chapel Hill.

“This is a huge pickup for Carolina,” said one ACC analyst. “He’s not just a scorer—he’s a playmaker, a defender, and someone who can create offense both on and off the ball. UNC just added a guard with a proven track record in the league.”

UNC, which is looking to reload after a strong NCAA Tournament run, had been on the lookout for a versatile guard who could help offset offseason departures and complement returning talent. The coaching staff zeroed in on the Virginia Tech transfer early in the portal process, impressed by his rapid development and competitive edge.

Standing at 6-foot-4, the guard brings size and athleticism to a Tar Heel backcourt that already features promising young talent. His ability to score at all three levels and defend multiple positions makes him an ideal fit for Davis’s up-tempo, balanced system. Sources say the decision came down to UNC and a handful of other high-major programs, but the opportunity to compete for a national title and play in one of college basketball’s most storied programs tipped the scales.

In a statement posted to his social media, the guard expressed excitement about joining the Tar Heel family.

“After careful consideration, I’ve decided to continue my basketball journey at the University of North Carolina,” he wrote. “I’m grateful to Virginia Tech for believing in me, but I’m excited for what’s next and ready to get to work in Chapel Hill.”

The move is the latest in a series of offseason efforts by UNC to retool and bolster its roster. With key returners expected back and a strong recruiting class on the way, the addition of a proven ACC performer could push the Tar Heels into early national title conversation.

UNC fans will now wait eagerly for the season to begin, hoping this latest addition can help guide the Tar Heels back to the Final Four—and possibly beyond.
