UConn Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma Reflects on ‘Magical’ Run to National Title, Promises Another..

UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma is no stranger to success, but even after decades of dominance, the 2025 national title still felt “magical” to the legendary coach. Reflecting on the Huskies’ triumphant tournament run, Auriemma praised the resilience and unity of his team, calling it “one of the most satisfying seasons” of his career.

“This group had every reason to fold injuries, pressure, expectations but they kept showing up, kept fighting,” Auriemma said during a press conference on Monday. “That kind of heart doesn’t show up on stat sheets, but it wins championships.”

Led by star guard Paige Bueckers and a breakout performance from freshman sensation Kayla Mitchell, UConn stormed through the tournament, defeating powerhouse teams with a mix of gritty defense and poised execution. The title marked the program’s 12th NCAA championship under Auriemma, further cementing his legacy as one of college basketball’s greatest coaches.

But Auriemma, now 71, isn’t slowing down.

“I’ve always said, if you’re not getting better, you’re getting left behind,” he said. “We’re already planning for next season. The goal? Another magical run.”

With a strong recruiting class on the horizon and returning veterans hungry for more, Auriemma believes the Huskies are just getting started. His message to fans and critics alike was clear: “Enjoy this one, but don’t think it’s the last. We’ve got another in us.”

After nearly four decades at UConn, Auriemma continues to evolve and inspire. As he put it: “The game changes, the players change, but the passion? That never fades.”
