Travis Kelce makes NFL retirement decision after months of speculation..

After months of speculation about his potential retirement, 35-year-old Travis Kelce has confirmed that he will return to the NFL for another season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

During an episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Feb. 27, McAfee read a text from Kelce, in which the star tight end stated he’s “coming back for sure” next season. He also expressed his determination to get into peak shape during the offseason and make another championship run.

Reflecting on the Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl, Kelce admitted he wasn’t satisfied with his performance or his leadership in preparing the team for the game. “I can’t go out like that!” he reportedly said.

Following the Super Bowl defeat on Feb. 9, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had been uncertain about Kelce’s future in the league. Earlier this month, ‘The Athletic’ reported that the Chiefs needed a decision from Kelce by March 14, as his contract runs through 2025 and includes an $11.5 million roster bonus payable on March 15 if he remains with the team. Mahomes acknowledged Kelce’s contributions to the team and the NFL, saying the veteran tight end deserved time to rest before making his choice.

Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, who retired in March 2024, also weighed in on the situation during a Feb. 21 episode of ‘The Steam Room’, suggesting that Travis likely already knew what he wanted to do.
