Top College Basketball Coaches React to WVU’s Hiring of Ross Hodge..

It's safe to say Hodge is well-respected among his peers.

On Wednesday afternoon, the West Virginia Mountaineers officially named Ross Hodge as their new men’s head basketball coach. After spending two seasons leading North Texas, Hodge will now take on a new challenge in the Big 12, following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Grant McCasland.

During his time at North Texas, Hodge guided the Mean Green to a 46-23 record and currently has them competing in the NIT semifinals. Following the announcement, several respected college coaches shared their thoughts on the hire in the university’s official press release.

Scott Drew, Baylor Head Coach:

“Ross is a phenomenal coach and mentor for young players. He will do an outstanding job at West Virginia. This is a home run hire, and the Big 12 just got even stronger.”

Dusty May, Michigan Head Coach:

“West Virginia is bringing in one of the brightest young coaches in the game. Ross has the grit, emotional intelligence, and humility needed to succeed at any level. He’s won everywhere he’s been, and I expect that to continue in Morgantown. I couldn’t be happier for him and his family.”

Grant McCasland, Texas Tech Head Coach:

“Ross Hodge is a proven winner. He’s an elite basketball coach who knows how to get the best out of his teams. But what sets him apart is his ability to build meaningful relationships off the court, which allows him to demand excellence from his players. He’ll achieve great things at West Virginia, but above all, he’s a fantastic husband, father, and friend.”
