Steve Winwood Joins Tedeschi Trucks Band For Explosive Sly Stone Medley.

A memorable meeting of blues-rock legends unfolded when Steve Winwood joined the Tedeschi Trucks Band onstage at Bridgeport’s Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater. On the opening night of their two-show stop on the Live In ’25 tour, Winwood fresh off his own acclaimed opening set reappeared midway through TTB’s performance to collaborate on a high-energy medley honoring Sly & the Family Stone.

Backed by the band’s 13-member lineup, the musicians launched into a blazing exchange on “Sing a Simple Song” before powering into an electrifying take on “I Want to Take You Higher.” The performance doubled as a heartfelt salute to the late Sly Stone, with Susan Tedeschi and Winwood sharing impassioned vocals amid the thunder of twin drummers and Derek Trucks’ searing slide guitar.

The evening also featured a special contribution from Nashville trumpeter Emmanuel Echem, who filled in for longtime member Ephraim Owens, adding a fresh brass dimension to the band’s already formidable sound.
