South Carolina State WR transfer Smith-Brown commits to West Virginia.

The West Virginia Mountaineers football team has secured a key commitment at a much-needed position with the addition of wide receiver Justin Smith-Brown from South Carolina State.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Florida native entered the transfer portal and was quickly offered a scholarship by WVU on April 16. He made an official visit to Morgantown on April 21, where he had the opportunity to explore the program in-depth and made the decision to commit shortly after.

Smith-Brown brings valuable experience to the Mountaineers, having played three seasons with South Carolina State. Over his time with the Bulldogs, he recorded 81 receptions for 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns, including a standout 2024 campaign with 54 catches for 749 yards and four scores. He saw significant playing time, logging 724 snaps this past season and 1,345 total during his career.

West Virginia wide receivers coach Ryan Garrett led the recruitment process for Smith-Brown, who joins the team with one year of eligibility remaining.

Smith-Brown becomes WVUโ€™s second wide receiver transfer this spring, following the arrival of Christian Hamilton from North Carolina. His addition helps bolster a position group in transition and adds proven production to the Mountaineersโ€™ offense.
