South Carolina Sends Head-Turning Dawn Staley Message After WNBA Draft..

Since taking over as head coach in the 2008–09 season, Dawn Staley has turned the South Carolina Gamecocks into one of the premier programs in women’s college basketball. Under her leadership, the team has become a powerhouse.

Staley boasts an outstanding 475–110 record at South Carolina, equating to a stellar 81.2% winning percentage. Alongside numerous victories, she has guided the Gamecocks to three national titles. In the 2024–25 season, the team once again made it to the national championship game but fell short against Paige Bueckers, Geno Auriemma, and the UConn Huskies.

Following the season, several Gamecocks players entered the 2025 WNBA Draft, including Te-Hina Paopao, Bree Hall, and Sania Feagin.

These players joined a growing list of WNBA talent developed by Staley during her tenure at South Carolina. After the draft, the program highlighted her remarkable track record in developing professional talent: since 2015, the Gamecocks have had 15 players selected, including two No. 1 picks, four first-rounders since 2021, and two top-five picks in the last five drafts.

Before her time at South Carolina, Staley was the head coach at Temple University from 2000–01 to 2007–08, finishing with a 172–80 record and six NCAA Tournament appearances.

Widely regarded as one of the top coaches in women’s basketball, Staley has not only built a winning program but has also played a key role in shaping the careers of many future WNBA stars.
