Serah Williams, a standout forward and two-time All-Big Ten First Team selection from Wisconsin, has committed to UConn for her final year of college basketball, choosing the Huskies over LSU and coach Kim Mulkey. The 6-foot-4 Brooklyn native was a high-priority target for several top programs after a stellar three-year run with the Badgers, also earning All-Defensive Team honors.
Despite a strong recruitment push from LSU which included a visit and a dinner with players like Flau’jae Johnson Williams opted for Geno Auriemma’s defending national champion Huskies. LSU has lost six players to the transfer portal and has reloaded with big names such as MiLaysia Fulwiley from South Carolina, Notre Dame’s Kate Koval, and East Carolina’s Amiya Joyner. However, missing out on Williams is still a notable setback.
Williams explained that UConn felt right from the start. “When I first stepped on campus and met the team and staff, I immediately felt it was where I belonged for my final season both on and off the court,” she said in a statement on UConn’s website. “The winning culture and atmosphere were exactly what I was looking for.”
Coach Auriemma praised the addition, calling Williams one of the top players in the country and highlighting her experience, versatility, and impact on both ends of the floor. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to our program,” he said. “She’s a perfect fit for what we’re building.”
Williams, who announced her commitment with a social media post referencing Genesis 28:15 and the caption “Go Huskiess,” will aim to help UConn defend its national title and achieve its first back-to-back championships since the team’s dominant run from 2013 to 2016.
