Seahawks Draft Targets: Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer on his top prospects..

As is tradition, the Alabama Crimson Tide once again boast several players expected to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft and a few of them might be solid fits for the Seattle Seahawks.

To delve deeper into those prospects, Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk welcomed Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer to the show. DeBoer, the former UW Huskies head coach who led Washington to the national title game before accepting the Alabama job in January 2024, offered insight on a number of his standout players.

G Tyler Booker

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 321 pounds, Booker is viewed by ESPN as the top guard in this year’s draft and could be a target for the Seahawks, who need help on the interior offensive line. In recent mocks, ESPN’s Matt Miller slotted him at No. 35 overall, while Field Yates had him going at No. 47. Seattle currently holds picks No. 18, 50, and 52.

DeBoer praised Booker’s leadership, work ethic, and relentless play style: “He plays hard through the whistle, and his energy lifts everyone not just the offensive line but the whole team.”

Asked whether Booker fits the Seahawks’ outside-zone blocking scheme under new OC Klint Kubiak, DeBoer affirmed: “He’s mobile, flexible, and still growing. I believe his best football is still ahead of him.”

LB Jihaad Campbell

A versatile 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker, Campbell is considered by many to be the best at his position in the draft. He’s a possible option for Seattle at No. 18, with ESPN mocks placing him as high as No. 15 and as low as No. 32.

Campbell’s production speaks for itself 117 tackles, 11.5 TFLs, 5 sacks, and more last season and he tested exceptionally well at the combine. DeBoer believes his flexibility will carry over to the pros: “We used him both inside and off the edge. He’s got sideline-to-sideline range and instincts. On third downs, we let him loose.”

He added: “Jihaad is a grinder and a playmaker. He finishes plays and is a coachable guy who brings energy.”

QB Jalen Milroe

Milroe, ranked the fifth-best QB by ESPN, is perhaps the draft’s biggest wild card. At 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, he boasts elite speed and strength as a runner. However, concerns remain about his passing accuracy and decision-making.

Projected as a third-round developmental pick, Milroe reportedly visited the Seahawks pre-draft. DeBoer praised his upside: “He’s got zip on his throws and can stretch the field vertically. He’s improving in his reads and understanding of the game.”

He continued: “Jalen’s a dynamic runner that’s his superpower but I believe he can grow into a dependable passer too.”

S Malachi Moore

Moore, a 5-foot-11, 196-pound safety, is viewed as a Day 3 prospect, ranked 16th at his position by ESPN and projected to go in the fifth round.

A veteran with 46 career starts, Moore played multiple safety roles at Alabama and finished with seven interceptions and 25 pass breakups. DeBoer described him as passionate, tough, and intelligent: “He’s played for multiple defensive coordinators and always performed. Even while dealing with injuries, he was a leader who held the unit together.”

DeBoer added: “He’s the kind of guy who practices and plays with heart,  he just loves the game.”
