SAXON Has Been Working On New Music For ‘About Six Or Seven Weeks Now’: ‘It’s Going Well’, Says BIFF BYFORD…

British heavy metal legends SAXON are back in the studio, working on brand new material, frontman Biff Byford has confirmed. In a recent update, Byford shared that the band has been writing and recording for “about six or seven weeks now,” and things are shaping up nicely.

Speaking candidly about the process, Byford expressed excitement about the early stages of the project. “It’s going well,” he said. “We’re just getting into the groove. We’ve got some powerful riffs and ideas coming together. It’s still early days, but the vibe is strong.”

This marks the latest chapter for the iconic band, who have been at the forefront of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) since the late ’70s. Known for their explosive sound and high-energy performances, SAXON has maintained a loyal global following through more than four decades of rock anthems, relentless touring, and a commitment to their signature sound.

Their most recent album, More Inspirations, released in 2023, was a follow-up to 2021’s Inspirations — a project that saw the band paying tribute to the artists that influenced them by covering classics from the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Deep Purple. However, this new material marks a return to original compositions, something longtime fans have been eagerly awaiting.

Byford hinted that the new music will carry the classic SAXON essence but won’t shy away from evolving with the times. “We always try to move forward without losing what makes us SAXON,” he explained. “There’ll be fast songs, heavy songs, melodic elements — all the things our fans love — but we’re also pushing ourselves creatively.”

While there’s no official word yet on a release date or album title, the band is expected to continue working in the studio throughout the coming months. According to Byford, the process has been smooth and collaborative, with all members contributing to the songwriting and arrangements.

Fans got a taste of SAXON’s current creative spirit during their recent European tour, where the band delivered blistering sets packed with classics like “Princess of the Night” and “Wheels of Steel,” alongside deeper cuts. The response from audiences reaffirmed the band’s place as one of the genre’s enduring forces.

Byford also shared that the energy from their live performances has helped fuel the studio sessions. “Playing live keeps us sharp,” he said. “It reminds us of what works, what gets people going. We bring that energy back into the studio.”

With over 40 years under their belt and no signs of slowing down, SAXON’s upcoming material promises to be another hard-hitting addition to their storied legacy. As Biff Byford confidently puts it, “We’re still hungry. Still passionate. There’s more fire to come.”

Stay tuned for more updates as SAXON continues to craft their next chapter in heavy metal history.
