Sarah Lavin, Ireland’s premier sprint hurdler, delivered a commendable performance at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, finishing fourth in the women’s 60 meters hurdles final with a season-best time of 7.92 seconds.

Lavin’s journey to the final showcased her consistent form. In the semi-finals, she clocked 7.93 seconds, securing her spot among Europe’s elite hurdlers. Her progression through the rounds highlighted her competitive edge and readiness for high-stakes competition.

The final was fiercely contested. Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji clinched the gold medal, followed by the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, who took silver and bronze respectively. Lavin’s fourth-place finish, while just shy of the podium, underscores her position among Europe’s top hurdlers.

This performance adds to Lavin’s impressive athletic portfolio. In February 2025, she secured her seventh National Senior Indoor title in the 60 meters hurdles at the 123.ie National Indoor Championships, winning the final in 8.11 Her personal bests stand at 12.62 seconds for the 100 meters hurdles, a national record set at the 2022 European Championships in Munich and 7.90 seconds for the 60 meters hurdles, achieved in Glasgow in 2024.

Lavin’s resilience extends beyond the track. In 2023, she faced personal tragedy with the loss of her long-term partner, rally driver Craig Breen, in a rallying accident. Despite this profound loss, Lavin has continued to honor his memory through her dedication to athletics, exemplifying her strength and determination.
