MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Even before the official announcement, Ross Hodge was already shaping the future of West Virginia University men’s basketball. Just days after leading North Texas to a deep postseason run, Hodge began assembling his first Mountaineer roster, demonstrating the tireless energy and commitment that define his coaching style.
Hodge’s North Texas squad capped off a strong season (27-9) with a narrow 69-67 loss to UC Irvine in the NIT semifinals on April 1. But behind the scenes, Hodge had already accepted his next challenge. He signed a memorandum of understanding with WVU on March 26, committing to take over the Mountaineers while still guiding the Mean Green through their postseason.
For a full week, Hodge juggled both roles coaching UNT in the heat of tournament play while also hitting the recruiting trail for West Virginia. It was a demanding stretch, but one that reflects his work ethic and vision for success.
“I knew I had to get to work right away,” Hodge said. “There’s no time to waste when you’re trying to build something special.”
Now officially in Morgantown, Hodge brings with him the same intensity that propelled North Texas to consistent success. As he starts forming his first WVU squad, fans can expect a team that mirrors his gritty, determined approach a group that will fight for every possession and compete at the highest level.
With a track record of postseason appearances and player development, Ross Hodge’s arrival signals a new era for Mountaineer basketball. And if his early hustle is any indication, West Virginia is in capable hands.
