The skier from Edwards secured a seventh-place finish in the final giant slalom race of the World Cup regular season on Saturday in Hafjell, Norway. Racing on the Olympia-loypa course, he posted a combined two-run time of 2 minutes, 19.70 seconds.
“It’s awesome. They’ve done an incredible job preparing the course, one of the best we’ve had all year. It was really fun to ski,” Radamus shared with the media after earning his fourth top-10 finish of the season. “The crowd was great—it’s not quite Trondheim, but there were plenty of people cheering us on, and we just wanted to put on a show for them.”
Switzerland dominated the podium, with Loic Meillard taking the win in 2:18.20, followed by Marco Odermatt (+0.14) in second and Thomas Tumler (+0.23) in third. Radamus wasn’t flawless in his second run clocking the 23rd-fastest time but was pleased with his overall consistency.
“Of course, I’d love to be on the podium, but I’ve been struggling a bit with my skiing,” he admitted. “It’s been up and down, one fast run, one slow run all season. Today, I had two that I was pretty happy with. There’s still room for improvement, but it was a step in the right direction.”
Meillard, the reigning world slalom champion, secured victories in both technical events over the weekend. “I knew what to do and what to focus on. This slope requires constant work, and even a small mistake can cost a lot, so I just gave it my all,” he told FIS.
Odermatt, meanwhile, clinched his fourth consecutive overall and giant slalom titles. “Winning my fourth GS Globe in a row is something to be proud of, even if I finished second today,” said the Swiss star, who also leads in the downhill and super-G standings heading into the World Cup Finals. “I struggled a bit with my GS skiing recently, not quite finding the same flow as last year. But I’m proud that I managed to fight for top positions race after race. Pushing yourself all season is tough, so I’m happy this successful trip to Norway is over, and I’m looking forward to a great final week in Sun Valley.”
The U.S. Ski Team will send 14 athletes to the World Cup Finals in Sun Valley from March 22-27, with only the top 25 in each discipline qualifying. Radamus, ranked 11th in the GS standings, joins Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, Nina O’Brien, and Paula Moltzan among others.
“Skiing at home is always special,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, U.S. Ski and Snowboard president and CEO. “From Mikaela’s historic 100th win to Lindsey’s comeback and several strong performances across the team, this group continues to inspire. We’re excited to close out the season in front of a home crowd and celebrate their achievements.”
Vonn is ranked 17th in super-G and 19th in downhill, while Shiffrin sits sixth in slalom. SSCV alumnus Kyle Negomir just missed qualifying, finishing 31st in the super-G standings after a late-season push.
“A touch late as per usual, but that’s it for my World Cup season this year,” Negomir shared on social media. Despite a strong effort, including a 20th-place finish in Crans Montana and two top-25 results in Kvitfjell, he fell just outside the top 25 needed to qualify.
“C’est la vie,” he wrote. “I’m learning the ups and downs of ski racing for a living, but I’ll never forget what a privilege it is to do what I love in front of so many people with so many great friends along the way.”
