REPORT: Men’s Basketball adds 7 players to rebuilt roste..

As of April 13, the WVU Men’s Basketball team had strengthened its roster with seven new additions five from the transfer portal and two from high school commitments.

 

Player Additions Overview

 

Harlan Obioha

WVU’s first portal pickup was Harlan Obioha, a 7-foot senior forward from UNC Wilmington. In his junior year, Obioha averaged 9.2 points, six rebounds, and 0.9 assists across 35 games. He helped UNCW reach the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to Texas Tech in the first round. Obioha contributed seven points, nine boards, and one block in that game. Prior to his time at UNCW, he played two seasons with Niagara University, averaging 10.3 points and 7.8 rebounds in his second year.

 

Brenen Lorient

The second transfer addition was senior forward Brenen Lorient from the University of North Texas. He followed new Head Coach Ross Hodge from UNT to Morgantown. Standing at 6-foot-9, Lorient was named the American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds last season. Before North Texas, he spent two years at Florida Atlantic University and was part of UNT’s Final Four run in 2023.

 

Deandre Thomas Jr.

WVU’s first high school recruit from the 2025 class is Deandre Thomas Jr., who initially committed to North Texas. He played at Allen High School in Texas, where he posted 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game over 35 contests in his senior year.

 

Honor Huff

The third transfer addition is guard Honor Huff, who played two seasons at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga after a year at VMI. In 38 games last season, Huff averaged 15.2 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game. He led the nation in made three-pointers with 131 and shot 41.6% from beyond the arc.

 

Jackson Fields

Junior forward Jackson Fields joined the Mountaineers after three seasons at Troy University. Last year, he put up 7.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-8 forward has one year of eligibility left.

 

Jasper Floyd

Another UNT transfer, guard Jasper Floyd, announced his commitment to WVU via Instagram. Under Coach Ross Hodge at UNT, Floyd averaged nine points, 3.9 assists, and three rebounds across 36 starts. WVU is his fifth school in five years, having previously played at Northwest Florida State, Hillsborough College, and Fairfield University.

 

DJ Thomas

Freshman forward DJ Thomas signed a grant-in-aid to join WVU. In his senior season at Allen High School in Texas, he averaged 10.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He earned All-Region honors and led his team to the Class 6A Division I semifinals.
