Penn State’s Abdul Carter Diagnosed with Foot Injury, Weighing Surgery Options..

Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right foot, according to tests conducted Wednesday night at the NFL Scouting Combine. The news was reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, citing Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

A projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Carter is now considering whether to undergo surgery to address the issue. “There are differing opinions on whether surgery is necessary, and we’ll determine the best course of action soon,” Rosenhaus said.

Carter has two options moving forward. He could choose to undergo a preemptive procedure, which would involve inserting a screw into his foot. Recovery from the surgery is expected to take around eight weeks, per Rosenhaus. Alternatively, Carter may opt to forgo the procedure and participate in Penn State’s pro day on March 28, demonstrating to NFL teams that he can perform without surgery.

On Wednesday, Carter, along with his family and agents Robert Bailey and Rosenhaus, met with doctors to gather further information. A decision is expected later this week.

“Regardless of what he decides, we don’t anticipate this affecting his draft position,” Rosenhaus stated. “After speaking with teams, I firmly believe he will be the No. 1 overall pick.”

The injury news comes shortly after Carter expressed his ambition to be the first player selected in April’s draft. In 2024, he put together an impressive season for the Nittany Lions, recording 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
