Paige Bueckers to Have Minnesota City Named After Her for WNBA Debut.

Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers is receiving an awesome honor for her WNBA debut.

Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers has had plenty of reasons to celebrate in recent weeks.

First, she led the UConn Huskies to victory in the 2025 NCAA national championship on April 6, defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks and securing her place as one of the greatest players in the storied history of UConn women’s basketball. Just days later, after a week full of celebrations, Bueckers was chosen as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings.

And recently, she received a one-of-a-kind honor: having an entire city named after her for a day.

Bueckers hails from Edina, Minnesota, and attended Hopkins High School in Minnetonka. Hopkins, a neighboring city, held a city council meeting on April 15 where officials unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing Bueckers’ achievements and declaring that the city would be renamed “Paige Bueckers, Minnesota” for one day on May 16, 2025.

The proclamation, which is available on the Hopkins city website, also noted that Bueckers was selected first overall in the WNBA Draft on April 14 and will make her professional debut on May 16.

To commemorate the occasion, the city will celebrate “Paige Bueckers Day” with local events, game-themed specials, and community gatherings as the Dallas Wings open their season against the Minnesota Lynx the very team Bueckers grew up rooting for.

As the game tips off, a Minnesota city will proudly bear her name in tribute to her accomplishments.
