Former UConn star and current Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers was selected No. 1 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft thanks to her dynamic and versatile scoring. But those familiar with her game know she’s equally skilled as a passer and floor leader.
With point guard Kaitlyn Chen on the UConn roster last season, Bueckers played more off the ball than in previous years. Still, many believe her natural position is point guard. Given that Dallas already has standout shooting guard Arike Ogunbowale, it’s likely Bueckers will assume the point guard role with the Wings. She recently addressed this transition during a media session on April 28.

“Learning a new system, leading the offense, being the floor general—it’s about understanding when and what to call,” Bueckers said when discussing the shift to WNBA point guard duties, according to Joe Mistretta of FanSided via X.
“I did some of that at UConn and even more in high school,” she added. “Now I’m relying on the coaches for guidance, asking questions, and emphasizing communication with my teammates. That connection on the court is huge.” Bueckers will begin showcasing her skills as the Wings’ point guard in their preseason opener against the Las Vegas Aces on May 2.
